Mississipi 7 Card Stud
ALSO CALLED MISSISSIPPI STUD AND BIG RIVER
HOW TO PLAY THE GAME
If you already know how to play Seven-Card Stud, Mississippi Stud will be easy for you to start playing since the games are so similar.
They’re played the same, except for these modifications: the fourth and fifth cards are dealt (or ‘flipped’) at the same time (face-up) and the seventh and final card is dealt face-up. Dealing the fourth and fifth cards at the same time eliminates one betting round, which speeds up the game and makes it less expensive than the five rounds of betting in classic Seven-Card Stud. Having the two cards dealt at the same time can improve the playability of some average hands. Also, high pairs become less valuable and straights and flushes become more profitable.
Mississippi Stud was invented so that Stud games could be played better as Pot-Limit or No-Limit games by omitting one betting round. It can also be played for low (lowest-ranked hand wins) and high-low (highest- and lowest-ranked hands split the pot).
MISSISSIPPI SEVEN-CARD STUD RULES
The rules are the same as Seven-Card Stud, with the exception of the dealing structure as noted above.
